Leisure Centres and Health Referrals
Wealden is home to three welcoming leisure centres in Uckfield, Crowborough and Hailsham, each offering a range of activities to support health and wellbeing. Hailsham Leisure Centre is the most family-focused site, featuring soft play and ten pin bowling alongside its pool, gym and classes, making it ideal for children and family days out.
Crowborough and Uckfield Leisure Centres provide more traditional fitness and sports facilities, including swimming pools, gyms, exercise classes and sports halls. Crowborough also offers a health suite, while Uckfield includes additional facilities such as squash courts and a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports activities.
Together, the three centres provide something for everyone, from family fun and children’s activities to fitness, sport and specialist health programmes in a supportive community environment.
Swimming
Swimming is a healthy activity that can be enjoyed by people of any age and ability. It offers a variety of health benefits and you can swim on your own or with friends and family. Aqua Classes are available at all three leisure centres, these classes are low impact, where water based fitness sessions such as Aqua or Aquafit, are designed to improve strength, mobility, and cardiovascular fitness while reducing joint stress.
Cancer Rehab Programme
A dedicated Cancer Rehab course is delivered at Hailsham Leisure Centre to support your health and wellbeing. Our specialist trained instructors are here to guide you safely, offering tailored support through our pre and post Cancer programme. Parkinson's
Parkinson's UK classes at Uckfield - An exercise class designed for users with Parkinson's and maintaining their fitness levels, takes place Monday to Thursday 11.30am - 12.30pm. Please contact Uckfield Leisure Centre at uckfieldenquiries@freedom-leisure.co.uk for any further information.
Holiday Clubs
Holiday Clubs at Crowborough and Hailsham - Freedom Leisure's kids club runs during East Sussex school holidays for children ages 5-12 years. Activities include arts and crafts, team sports, movie time and treasure trails.
Healthy Communities
Healthy Communities is a not-for-profit charitable leisure trust, supporting individuals and communities to be more active and healthier is at the heart of everything we do. Freedom Leisure believe in ‘health at all ages’; we want the local communities across Wealden to have fun, feel welcome, included and empowered to live healthy lives. Freedom Leisure will continue to focus our attention on transitioning our local centres in to Community Health and Wellbeing Hubs, bringing together partners in a collaborative, place-based approach to improve population health by addressing health inequalities.
The Wealden contract has a dedicated Healthy Communities Manager, who works closely with the sites and local community, to ensure a wide range of activities and projects are delivered, for the local community to access. Programmes are delivered within the 3 Leisure Centre and externally, through partnership collaboration with a range of community services, to deliver a programme of activities, in the heart of the community. Our partners include; East Sussex Public Health, One You East Sussex, Hellingly Community Hub, Wealden Retirement Living Courts, Healthy Wealden, Parkinson's UK, Sussex Cancer Trust, MacMillan Cancer & Wealden District Council.
Health Referral Programme
The Health Referral programme Freedom Leisure Health Referral Scheme is delivered at all three sites, offering tailored support and expertise to those individuals or groups of people, that require specialist exercise prescription to manage existing health conditions or prevent ill health. Programmes run by us include: Exercise on Referral, Weight Management Programmes, Cancer Rehab, Aqua Rehab. Referral Circuits and Chair Based exercises.

Chatty Cafe
The Chatty Cafe is a welcoming space for people of all ages to connect, share stories and enjoy friendly conversation over a hot drink. Held every Thursday, from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Hailsham Leisure Centre. Whether you’re new to the area, looking to meet people or simply fancy a chat, there’s always a warm welcome waiting for you.
